I would have to say," I am very proud to b an American." When u think about other countries, they have no freedom of speech, no human rights n some parts of the country and many more..... So why wouldn't I b proud.... Would u want to be treated like a slave or dog n other countries...... It is illegel for a man to have more then one wife in the U.S.A but in other countries, its a normal thing... Who u want to share their wife or perhaps husband with another human being... Or would u want a King and Queen to run ur country......Little children are being used as sex slaves in other countries... Why do u think foreigners are coming to our country..... Think about it..... Soooooo many reasons to be an American... I could go on about this and write a book while I'm at it (lol)

What a difficult question to answer. A simple "no" would be unpatriotic and nonsupporting of my fellow Americans. A simple "yes" would be an outright lie. I suppose that Thomas Jefferson said it best:

"Dissent is the highest form of Patriotism,"

...meaning that if you do not speak out about the injustices of your own nation, you are not a patriot. If this is true, then yes, I am a great patriot. However, it is hard to be proud to be an American if you do not support your government and believe that a majority of your nation's citizens contribute to the problem rather than the solution.

When it comes to certain things. Not too proud considering this country feels that it is superior to all others. We like to call it a "free" country, which it of course it generally offers more rights than others, but it still has major flaws. My answer is yes. Proud of our democracy, and of the liberal views many Americans share, but not so much the narrow-minded conservative portion.

first of all, im not american, im a resident there, but im still waiting for te immigration process to start. and scince ive been here (6 years) i have come under the impression that america is not that popular among a lot of countries. if you ask me, its the patriotisim, it seems like america is over doing it, what with the pledge of allegiance said EVERY DAY in schools, how the anthem is sung at EVERY game, how you cant travel more than a mile without running into a flag, how people try so hard to retain the image of the "all-american family". america is starting to look a tad arrogant to other nations.
whenever i go to another country, i have to look up the country's relationship with america and then decide whether i tell the people there whre i came from. especially when i go back to visit my foreign hometown. fortunately, my relatives try to help me out and not mention this to anyone else.

note: puckheaded's answer above, is a perfect example

that andalorn guy knows whats up huh? im proud to be an american but ill not turn a blind eye to our shortcomings. there are so many people down on being american but give em a week in korea and ill bet they change their tune.

ive been outside the states and have met many people from diff. places. and guess what, theyre worse!! the diff is we're a superpower. someone has to be the bad guy in todays world. at least we frown on racism, but its horrible in mexico for example. now that may not be the case for everyone but most of the people ive met. dont be decieved.

finally, were still a very young country and weve got kinks to work out. but i believe were making headway. and its alot easier to cast judgement instead of understanding. and we do need a change. but that doesnt mean im ashamed of being where im from. it makes me sick to hear people be ashamed to be from here. weve got so much freedom but they dont care about that, just the image we have.

remember what the founding fathers stood for and tell me that doesnt mean something. it does to me.

Not these days, no. I wish I could be, but I find it very hard to be proud of what the US has been doing lately.

Not when our country has stood for all the bad things it has. Granted we do some good, and are trying to be better, but we jump to ideas, support the wrong people, are selfcentered, and to many other things that I do not support. So if we were to change then yes, but right now, No.

Yeah, I'm proud to be an American. Damn straight. Most other countries suck. Their governments suck, their ideal suck, their corruption sucks. There are only a few countries that even compare. I feel very luck to live here. Very lucky.
