I'm working on my first novel. It is going to be set in Chicago. Could anyone help me by telling me the name of a high-class district of Chicago in the inner city? In addition, I would also need to know a middle class neighborhood and an area that has a reputation for prostitution.

The best-known high-class area is the Gold Coast, extending along Lake Michigan north of downtown. This is in the city of Chicago, though it certainly wouldn't have "inner city" connotations. The closest to that is porbably the South Loop area, near Roosevelt and State, which is a rapidly gentrifying that is quite close to rather seedy neighborhoods.

There are lots of middle class neighborhoods scattered all over Chicago. You might choose Bridgeport, home of the original Mayor Daley, which is just west of Comiskey Park (now U.S. Cellular Field, home of the White Sox). On the north side, Ravenswood (at the end of the brown line 'L') is both middle class and filled with ethnic diversity.

As for prostitution, there is no one place for girls. (Gay prostitution tends to concentrate in Boystown, north and east of Wrigley Field.) One particularly seedy area is west Roosevelt Road, particularly around Cicero Avenue. (Cicero itself is another strip well known for the sex trade.) This is a drug-ridden area on the west side, and prostitution is one of its many crime problems. On the north side, there is some prostitution near the Howard Street 'L' station on the Chicago/Evanston border. On the south side, hookers can be found on 63rd Street, especially near Ashland and State. Prostitution is also big areas outside the city, such as Elk Grove Village, Franklin Park, and Hammond (Indiana).

There are two parts to the city the north side which can be used as a shady type setting, with drugs, prostitution and such, and then theres the south part/suburbs which can be used as a higher rate setting like good neigborhoods expensive living and such. There so many parts of illinois that can be used, all types of towns/cities, you just need to do some research.
