Delivering babies is a billion dollar business. Do you think hospitals should be required to hire midwives to handle the low-risk deliveries? (leaving the doctors to the ones that truly need their care: the high risk births)

I think so, every women should have the choice.

To John P

I'm sorry that happened to you and your wife. Just for the record, you can refuse ANY medical proceddure you don't want, and yes this includes C-Sections!

To Mystic: I agree with you all the way. I live in Redding CA, and all we have here is Mercy hosiptal (catholic heathcare west) and I would rather squat over my bath tub than be caught in that place to deliver my children. I've heard way to many horror stories!

Every woman HAS a choice of what doctor/midwife to go to. At least I know I wasn't assigned one at puberty.

Delivering babies is also a very risky business, malpractice is very high for doctors and midwives. Many have chosen to no longer deliver babies due to the cost!

I totally agree with you about the big business, the money grubbing
SOB's made my wife have an emergency C-section after 3 natural births. I wanted to kill the dr. Incidentally, in some military hospitals, (where my 3 daughters were born), mid-wives do deliver babies. I was much happier with them than the jerk that cut my son from her belly.

Also, that same hospital had 13 of 14 babies in the nursery that were delivered by C-section that day. I would bet my life savings that the natural born baby shot out to fast for them to cut the mother. Be weary of Catholic Hospitals.

Birth should not happen in hospitals except for very specific high risk cases.

Women should have the right to birth at home and midwives should have the right to practice midwifery, not what happens when they become overregulated.

Yes women should have the right to have a midwife in the hospital, but the more important issue is to get birth out of hospitals altogether.

Yes that would be great! Except it IS big biz. I'm having a heck of a time trying to get a midwife to come and do a home delivery here (in Pa, the boonies). I don't want to go to the hospital and get a superbug and get my arms and legs cut off like that one woman in florida got.
