The best way to stop pork is not the line item veto, contrary to one posters comments. That's switching power from the legislative branch to the executive branch. Seeing what a bad president is capable of, I don't want to take that chance by messing with our constitution.
The best way to assure that we don't have pork, is to eliminate omnibus bills where one bill contains 40 items. They are spending our money, and they should be voting on each and every spending decision that they make. This pork wouldn't stand a chance on getting passed if it were presented on it's own, so they jam it in with other popular items to get it in.

The best way to stop "pork barrel" projects is to give the head of the executive branch "line item" veto power. This requires that all projects stand upon their own merits.

next time you gripe to your congressperson about road conditions, lack of school funding, lack of a nice new post office in your town, lack of power because there isnt enough to go around because the creek isnt dammed, lack of "programs" for the poor, elderly, youth, newborn, newly married, newly divorced, newly unemployed, don't squeel to congress, it might take some fatback to solve your needs. Anyway, cant have buffalo barrel politics, cause the congressfolks only know how to be pigs. (sorry if that offends the real swine of the world)

If the President had the power of line item veto, as a new law comes across his desk, he could literally veto the "pork barrel" projects that have been "tacked on" by congressman for their own interests, but OK and sign the original law.
WRITE YOUR CONGRESSMEN AND TELL THEM YOU SUPPORT THE LINE ITEM VETO TO STOP UNCONTROLLABLE GOVERNMENT SPENDING!!!
