In my opinion, the "War on Terrorism" is incomprehensible. No identifiable targets and defeating something which has been around since forever in the Middle East seems very farfetched at best...

It's the battle between good and evil but who is good and who is evil.

First, it has not been "around since forever in the middle east." Second, read kenai's post. It says most of what I was going to say. Third, ideologies DO die. When was the last time you heard that the universe was geocentric? Or that the eldest son should inherit all the land, the second should become a priest, and the rest should join the military?

People can kill people..but it is impossible to kill an ideal.Ideals
don't wear uniforms or go by a battle plan. The pure idea of
a "War on Terror" is lunacy. You can have a war against
terrorists and the damage they cause but to think one can
altogether destroy Terrorism is utterly foolish

Yes. There is a difference between being an ideologue and being a terrorist and there is no room for terrorists in the world.

Edit-

It is cut and dry. You are either against terrorism and you do all you can to rid the world of it or you are a terrorist. There is no middle ground. When you force people to choose a side it is not hard to identify an enemy.

Reasonably speaking that would be a fruitless and a endless task for any one country to take up alone. The problems are with the many ideologist that have created more terrorist cells today. If we all just maintain our home security they will start to kill each other off, and not need our assistance for that. Just take a look at Iraq, Palestine, and other countries, they are doing a damn good job on their own.

terrorism is not an ideology, it is a tactic typically used in asymmetric warfare. it should be called the war on islamo-fascism

We defeated Fascism & Communism didn't we? We won't ever eliminate ALL Islamofascists, but we can keep them out of power.
