Intolerance for one, is a major problem. When we are taught tolerance in spite of difference, we tend to be much more understanding to those who are different than ourselves. We tend not to be as judge mental, and much more willing to believe the truth. A lot of what is written, and said about gays, is based on bias, and unfortunately once it's out there, there's little that can be done about it. People tend to believe what they hear. And with homophobia being what it is, it makes it that much easier to believe. No matter how extreme the lie is.

They are not different, they are just like everybody else. They get so much criticism because a lot of people in the world think its wrong to like someone of the same sex.
"People still don't get used to the idea of that kind of lifestyle. I still haven't meet any accomplished gay person. I would like to meet one who is assertive and happy. Do you know one?"
Yes. I Do know one. Ellen Degeneres! She's a lesbian and yet VERY successful. She has accomplished a lot of things.

I think one reason why they do get so much criticism is because older generations aren't use to the idea. As time goes on and people get older, I think it would become a more common thing.

Because of close-minded religious views. There are plenty of abominations in the bible. Religions just pick and chose the ones that fit their way of life. Hypocrits.
Judge lest ye be judged.
That is one that they chose not obey.
By the way to above poster... There are plenty of highly accomplished homosexuals. They just can't let it be known in certain positions or else they will lose it all because of the bigotry in this world.
To any of you homophobes.. Is your sexual orientation to one most important aspect of your being?? Sexual Orientation is only one small part of a person.
It is biological. BIOLOGICAL.
Thats like me telling you that you can not work here, live here, or marry here because your left handed (or Blue Eyes, Brown Hair etc....) It is not a choice.

Because those who criticize have a habit of bringing down others (not just gays) just to make themselves feel better about their own inadequacies.

i would answer this question with all due respect. gays gets so much criticism because the society is not open to that kind of gender, culture, and the like, and not all society accepts them. probably, another good explanation would be because it is against the will of God. in the bible, god burned Sodom and Gomorrah because it is full of gay people.

because of small closed-minded people that are comfortable in their own little worlds and can't handle change, it's as if they have major cases of austism. even though they may need to look it up and find out what that is, then go to get professional help.

There is this perception by most straights (yes, most straights - even if they don't say this out loud they think it) ---- that we sleep around, spread HIV/AIDS, are vain, highly strung, effeminate, pathetic 'defects' that never received love from our parents and that we 'turned' gay after we were all molested as children.
