It is a question that would take hours to answer.
The reason was we blamed them because they started the war, attacking France
through neutral Belgium.

There were two main alliances and numerous minor ones which were quick to join sides. With so many countries involved it was named The Great War, the War to End All Wars.

It was only after the start of the WW II, that the term WW I came into being.

If the Archduke who is the heir to the throne of Austria-Hungary is assassinated - why does Germany need to declare war on Russia? Is this not a matter for Austria-Hungary to settle alone?
If Russia does come to the aid of Serbia, does Germany need to declare war on France? If Germany respects another nation's borders, why does it violate Belgium in order to fight with France?
These are just some of the questions one could ask, and the answers may help to understand why Germany (along with Austria-Hungary) were to blame for starting the Great War.

After the assassination of June 28, Austria-Hungary waited for 3 weeks before deciding on a course of action, obtaining first a "blank check" from Germany that promised support for whatever it decided.

Having pledged its support to Austria-Hungary, Germany issued Russia an ultimatum on July 31, demanding a halt to mobilization within 12 hours. On August 1, with the ultimatum expired, the German ambassador to Russia formally declared war.
