Because the American people have become self-absorbed. Lost their BALLS! Forgot to instill the values and to teach our youth about the past wars and the sacrifices that a forefathers fought and died for. They have become so reliant on the government (weak blue-blood, privaleged, spoiled, do nothings ... ie: Bush, Pilosie, Kennedy, Kerry, and all others that have never worked an honest day in thieir lives) to instruct us how to raise our children, what food to buy, how to be politically correct. ( piss on thi I say) The people need to wake up and read the Constitution of the United States and live by these rules, not what you lazy *** polititions tell us and you need to start following it or see youselves voted out.

That power exists in a different form of democracy. In countries such as England, a Parlimentary Democracy as opposed to a Representative Democracy as is found in the US, the population has the power to end a government by voting "no confidence" thereby ending the terms of seated officials and calling for new elections. Though it is not regularly exercised the threat of this act is a powerful negotiation tool. We are beginning to flirt with that concept in a bastardized version called, "impeachment". Don't like your leader, throw him in jail.
Elections, however, are expensive, messy and bog the legislative process (some might even say they temporarily stop it altogether.) We need, if anything, fewer, not more of them. We have a means to change our government when we feel it no longer is properly representing the population. These means come every two or four years depending on the office. Be patient.
To also address the question behind question. No one likes to fight a war, particularly a long and expensive one. We would do well to remember though, that it has only been in the past months that the number of dead Americans since 9-11 eclipsed the number who died on 9-11. Those people died not because they volunteered to fight but simply because they went to work that morning. George Bush did not invent terrorism. Osama Bin Laden and his minions hated the US before he took power and they will continue to hate the liberal dove who will likely be swept into office in 2008. Imagine pulling out of Iraq, freeing up thousands of men, hours and money, for Al'Qaida. Where do you suppose they will go when they leave Iraq? Boston or Bagdad. which do you prefer? George Bush told us on 9-14-01 that we would take the war to the terrorists and in taking Iraq we have done just that. No serious terrorist incident has occurred on US soil since 2001. What percentage of Americans would have thought that in 2001? If, in 2001 the question was posed to the American people "How would you feel about your President, if, between now and 2007, not one single american were to die at the hands of a terrorist on American soil? I suppose we have an answer. We would feel ungrateful. We would selectively forget that we still remain at risk and we would try to blame him for the mess so our fear could have a name and a face. So Hillary gets elected to a third term and brings the troops home. In the months say (20 to 30) that follow, a wealthier, better organized, better trained, more experienced and rested Al-Qaida executes another successful operation in the US. Then what do we do? Go back? Pick another country to invade? No, at that point we will be beaten and humiliated. Right now Al'Qaida is fighting and dying in Iraq. They are a far more formidable enemy than we gave them credit. Oh well, it is what it is. More people hated us than we had originally thought. We should do as many people who believe in what the President suggest. We should redouble our efforts and keep it up forever or until they crack whichever comes first. As much as it seems now like nothing will ever end in Iraq remember, no one thought the Berlin wall was collapsing until it did. No one ever though communism would ever go away. Tuck tail and come home beaten? It seems a logical or at least the easiest solution. Well, another american war leader was faced with a different but equally daunting question of whether to surrender to what seemed like impossible odds. I liked his response. "NUTS" We should fight until there is no fight left in our enemy. We have greater resources and can last longer than they can. The question is will we? Al'Qaida will never possess the ability to beat America, however, Bin Laden's evil genius may be his abilty to correctly anticipate America can beat itself.

Yes, let's all "evoke" that right. The government isn't the issue; we're not demanding enough accountability. The safeguards are there, we just aren't taking advantage. Overthrowing a governmental system as good as ours would be foolish. It's not perfect, but if you grew up in any number of the other countries in the world you would not even have this sort of access to government, even though it feels like sometimes we have none.

Catch 22. Bloody revolts are hardly ever clearly and completely thought through. If the revolutionaries aren't very careful they can easily end up with a government that's worse than the one they overthrew. Then again, I think it was Jefferson who said that a revolution every twenty years would probably be good for the country. In any case I think letting a conquering general become president is probably a bad idea.

If we used the present system properly we could. Vote for someone who does not make a lot of money. Vote for someone not in the mainstream. Write them in if you have to. You dont have to vote D or R. We need a method so the little people will be heard. We could put the power back in the peoples hands if we just think.

I'd be down for that. Let's rebuild it how our founding fathers saw it to be. A REPUBLIC. Our govt. would be focused on the matters of our country instead of policing the world into a control grid of globalization.

because we're way too lazy and apathetic. If we can only get 40% of adult citizens to vote, how are we supposed to get enough people to start a revolution?

Our democracy allows us to elect leaders. I don't see a reason to eliminate that; do you?
