Roger Federer just broke Jimmy Connors' all-time record for consecutive weeks at the number one spot. How much longer will he stay there? Another 50 weeks? Another 100 weeks? Another 150 weeks? Will Roger still be number 1 when he retires?

Barring serious injury, it's hard to imagine anyone taking the #1 spot from him for at least 2 more years. The rankings points are slanted heavily toward major titles and Federer's had the ability to raise his game for those events (48-1 in his last 7 majors). Plus, he lacks a consistent all-surface rival to take the ranking from him if he should falter a bit - Nadal is currently second but is still way behind and has tons of points to defend this clay-court season.

In the longer term, I would guess he'll be the overall #1 for about 3 more years - 2 more years of dominance, with another year added for those points to expire. It's difficult (and fun) to predict who might take it from him, but by then, at least someone should raise their game, right?

Federer will hang on to number one for awhile, but the ride can't last forever. I predict that Nadal will take over number one by year's end if he stays healthy. Also Youzhny is playing unbelievable tennis right now, and should break the top ten. Haas is playing well too. Davydenko seems to have lost a bit. If Nabaldian stays properly motivated, he could move up to 3 or 4. Roddick and Blake will be in the mix as well. And of course Ljubicic, but he needs to work on his mobility and court coverage. Watch for a longshot outsider to make a move this year, the German Philipp Kohlschreiber, currently ranked 57. He has a very impressive game, just as long as he can keep his first serve percentage up there.

I'm sure he will be at the top for at least a hundred more weeks. There is not one tennis player that I can think of at the moment that is anywhere near as good as Federer is.

I think hes practically guaranteed another 20 weeks regardless of how he performs. But my best bet is probably 100.

At the rate he's going, until Andre's & Steffi's son come of age. He may retire #1 if he gets bored having no one to challenge him.

Great question. I would have to say at least a hundred more weeks. The big question is who is going to replace him at number one.
