Yes i have tomatoes, eggplant (thai purple and lebanese), chilli peppers(about 10 varieties), artichokes, cabbage(red), beetroot, zucchini, lettuce(3 varieties), onions(4 varieties), garlic(2 varieties), broccoli, capsicum, peas and sweetcorn. I also have herbs sage, parsley, basil, thyme, rosemary, curry plant and corriander. All of this is in an over grown garden bed about 10 meters by one meter. They all seem to like being crowded.

I grow a garden to make salads. First, you have to till the ground. Usually, people use a rototiller, but using a shovel is fine also. It's a tough job, but hard work is good for you. Then, you stake out the rows about 18 inches apart. The seed packets tell you how far apart the rows have to be. To stake out the rows, you use white string stretched tight between two stakes for each row. Then, you plant the seeds. The packet tells you how. You plant seeds every couple inches (about 1/4 to 1/2 inch deep depending) and then thin out the young plants every twelve inches or so. The most important thing about a garden is it needs lots of water. I watered mine almost every evening. For some plants like tomatoes and green peppers, you go to a greenhouse and buy young seedlings and plant them. WalMart should have a green house with lots of young plants.

We grow as much as time will allow. But even a small garden is well worth the effort. I love fresh vegetables. They taste so much better than what you get in the store. It's unbelievable how much more flavor is in the fresh stuff. And they don't have all the pesticides and additives that commercial growers use.

I've grown all kinds of tomatoes (my favorite), okra, eggplant, collard greens, bell peppers, hot peppers, squash, strawberries, and just about every kind of herb you can think of. It's just so much fun and the rewards of eating vegetables you know are healthy and pesticide free just tastes better:)

I just started my seeds indoors and they are doing great. I'll transplant them when it stops freezing for sure.

I am growing organic because I am too afraid of pesticides after attending a Master Gardener course.
