Family is very important in Egypt.
Before any mention of business is made. A lengthy discussion will occur regarding the respective families.
Their health, children and their schooling any marriages impending etc etc.
Then a conversation on sport may occur.
This is always over a glass of chai or tea.
It is important that no party appears in a hurry to get down to business.
Enquiries will be made into each others personal health.
Then slowly, slowly the conversation will eventually wind its way to discussion regarding the business part.
When deciding on price or services, much play acting goes on regarding who is "killing" who,and whose business will never recover from the good price that is almost agreed on.This part can become quite vocal!
Finally, a price or agreement for services will be reached and both parties will usually stand, shake hands and embrace each other.
The whole process can take hours. Depending on the individuals, also the size of their families, for almost every family members welfare is enquired about. It also depends on the difficulty in agreeing on a price and the conditions of business.
In Egypt, business is business and friendship is friendship.
The two have little to do with each other.
So they always, where possible kept completely separate.

stop the lying you tell lies like you breath the air. it is not business etiquette to lie some times the truth hurts but it hurts worse when you find out youve been lied to.
If you want something done for instance.ask the person when will you start, he will say bwkra, that is like saying manyana ,whenever, not tommorrow as is the arabic word for tommorrow' so ask what time tommorrow will give you a time knowing full well it is a lie, because if he or she says i dont know you have to ask him another question,so they tell lies to keep us happy, not thinking this will really piss me off at a later date,
