All political parties are populated with people with different ideologies. Myself I would probably be defined as a social liberal and fiscal conservative, I am in fact a Libertarian who has voted predominately Republican. Liberals are the extreme left wing of the political spectrum and as Democrat falls to the left of the political spectrum they are bunched together. Most Liberals vote Democrat because it is the party with the most teeth that leans their direction, when in fact they are probably socialists or communists in true political definition.

In short they are not necessarily the same thing but you could say all Liberals are Democrats but not all Democrats are liberals.

Blueangel: You just defined Libertarian not Liberal.

Democrats are of the Democratic party and a Liberal is someone who follows Liberalism, which is a political ideaology. Additionally, there is a Libertarian party that is separate and very different from the Democratic party. Many people often confuse Libertarians with Democrats but in reality they are very different.

Liberal is a school of thought and Democrat is a party. Some Democrats are more conservative than others, and some Republicans(particularly now) are more liberal than others.

"Liberalism" and "liberal" are broader terms than "Democrat." A liberal is anyone who holds the philosophy that individual liberty is the primary political value, or basically that individual rights are most important. They believe in freedom of thought, limitations on government power, a market economy that supports free private enterprise, and a system of government in which the rights of all citizens are protected.

Democrats are specifically members who belong to the Democratic Party and who vote Democratic in the elections. Democrats agree with the Democratic Party's policies on immigration, health care, government spending, etc. Many liberals disagree with the Democratic Party on some issues.

Therefore, many liberals are not Democrats but belong to other non-conservative parties, like the Green Party. They favor more rights for the people and do not support the Republicann Party, but they do not necessarily support the Democratic Party either.

Democrats are typically Liberal and Republicans are typically Conservative however the social and fiscal beliefs of each party can be interchanged. For example I believe abortion should be legal, but I believe the Government should cut spending. That would make me a Conservation Democrat. If I believed in a strong military presence around the world and expansion of social programs at home I may be a Liberal Republican. Democrat and Republican are parties. Liberal and Conservative are belief systems.

they are the same. Democrats are liberals and Republicans are conservatives.
But in recent years lines have been blurred and people started saying they were 2 different extremes. Liberals were just really "liberal" democrats etc...
But yes they are the same.

They are, but don't forget the National Education Association, they own and operate the Democratic Party, they're teaching our children to love and support the Democratic Party, if you don't believe me , ask you children what they have learned in school about the Democratic Party, it's phrases like the Democratic party is like your mother , it will take care of you

Nope, the Democratic membership is pretty moderate even a little to the right. Don't forget that Dem encompass labor which is a lot of blue collar people who don't buy into the liberal agenda. The Democratic National Committee is like a gang and operates completely out of touch with the Dem voters. Bush was elected twice by huge Dem voter gains. Thats Twice. Once against Gore who is the phoniest man on earth (with a political Oscar from the Hollywood left that he can bludgeon Obama with) and John Kerry the biggest idiot to ever run for office. I am a Dem and I am a moderate, a little left on social issues, a little right on national defense. The Dem party is a mess and does not look to recover anytime soon. But the average Dem is just like the average Repub: a moderate. In case you did not know Repubs are not conservatives. Only the lunatic left in the Dem Party is liberal and only the radical right in the Repub party is conservative (Ann Coulter/Rush the like) but most people are moderates and thats why we get Dem and Repub Presidents. Right now the Dem Party is out of town with voters.

Not all but most and the funny thing is, all too many liberals will lie to you and say they aren't a democrat.

Not all Democrats are liberal, and many liberals don't follow any party lines, and consider themselves independent.!!!!

True liberals are more interested in making this world a better place for everyone, than following party lines!!!
