I would like to know whose example are baptists following when they ask to be baptisted as adults ?

Not sure what you mean, but you only need to be baptized once. Only After you have received Jesus as your personal Savior. So you could be a young individual or an adult when this happens. Baptism is just an outwardly expression of your old way of life being buried and arising to your new life in Christ.

John the Baptist baptizing Jesus. Christ commanded it in several places in the Bible. Matthew 28:19-20, and Mark 16:15-18.
