Each animal has different uses and different values dependent on these uses. People in general can relate to animals as pets. Animals used for food are rarely thought about. The atitude of most people towards food animals is that, "If they weren't meant to be eaten then why are they made of meat?"

No. Many animals are the whole support for animal life in thier area. Small animals like spiders do such important jobs that without them life on this earth would cease to exist. We consider animals of intelligance to be important because we can relate to them. We are looking for a companion in this empty universe. We want to share our experiance and knowlege with some one, but we are alone on this planet, and all planets we look at are also empty.

Not really...Although I don't believe in animal cruelty or most experiments involving animals, I do believe that animals help with a lot of things on earth. Animals are used for food. Pigs are used for insulin. Bees make honey which has a lot of natural healing properties. I agree that we shouldn't be cruel to animals and that animals like humans feel pain, however I don't believe that animals have "souls" like humans do (which can be found religiously). I think that the importance of an animal lies in the amount that a human can benefit from it.

No. President Bush is as equally important to me as any higher level animal (in this case, a penguin would do). I think America is against you on this one. We don't judge our presidents by their intelligence...although the ability to speak helps at campaign fundraisers sometimes. Of course, the president does just sit and nod all day...

good point, i dont think that any animal is really more important than another. when you look at the big picture, any animal taken out of an ecosystem causes significant changes. but, apparently humans are biased, we tend to see animals that are intelligent or more appealing as more imprtant than others.

No, I think we should base it on the roll they play on the environment and the natural flow of things. All animals are connected, so I don't think any one animals is more important than another.

No - every organic aspect of this planet is important - rocks, plants, aeomebas (sp.?), reptiles, mammals, insects - they all contribute to the chain of life.
