That is a Copyright, really uneeded since bill passed in 2003/06. It is called a Poor Mans Patent, that is where the confusion is, take drawings or spec sheets, packing tape in a box or manila envelope, send to self from Post Office by Registered Mail, sign for it, do not open it, it has Federal Officials that did swear that it was legit when you signed for it.
It will not make a strong case, but it will make a case stronger, should one arise.

I don't think that method counts as a true patent but it could give you some legal protection if it ever becomes an issue. you have to take it the post office so it can be postmarked and just mail it to yourself but, when you get it in the mail, DON'T OPEN IT! The postmark date counts as the "patent" date but if you open it, that voids it.

ditto from above, it's copyright not patent. Also send it registered mail and do not open.

This is NOT a guaranteed way to hold copyright of any work, but if it goes to court, you may (or may not) have a 'leg up'.

There are real, actual copyright forms at www.loc.gov
