Variations include many things such as: Environment, industrial progress, better medical care among other things. These variations can affect the change in population (In numbers) to a great extant. For example, before one hundred years, the number of population on earth was less than a billion, because many diseases were not easy to treat and ended up with death, so the ratio between births and deaths was less than now. But in our current century, many diseases and conditions that killed people 100 years ago, are now eradicated (Got rid of). Hope that helped
