I will be moving to Fort Irwin in about 7 months and I was just wondering how the Jr. NCO housing is there on post and as what the surrounding area is like.

For the most part the housing is really nice. There are a few run down ones though. For ranks E1 - E5 there is a possibility of getting a run down one or a quadruplex which is like apartments. Or possibly a really nice new duplex. Then there's the E-5 to E-6 category which you're guarantined a nice one. E-7s and above get a 3 or 4 bedroom. Of course senior enlisted and officers get the best.

We wanted a 3 bedroom but we couldn't because my husband wasn't promotable to E7. But overall we're really happy with our house and the people at housing are very nice and helpful. You will have to pay for housing out of BAH. You can find out more about Ft. Irwin and housing here.....http://www.irwin.army.mil/channels, http://resident.irwinmilitaryhousing.com/, and https://onestop.army.mil/

It is in the middle of nowhere and it gets hot in the summer but that's a no brainer. But you're a couple hours away from LA and Las Vegas which makes great weekend getaways....and they encourage well time here. So far this is the best duty station we have been to. If you have any more questions feel free to email me! :D
