You must first file a appearance in the case if you have not already done so. After that any previous connection that this judge has to the case is grounds for him to recuse himself or you to ask that he be recused (taken off case). When you get a fair judge then ask that all proceedings (the adoption) be stayed (halted)until you can motion the court for custody yourselves. Good luck.

If everything is equal, then you still have a chance so go ahead and file for it. If you feel the judge is being biased to the other side, petition for a change of venue (jurisdiction) on the grounds of judge bias. Dont put the other couple down, but present yourself in a higher light than them. Have a plan for raising the grandchildren as the judge will askfor one so be prepared covering everything. Just be yourself and you will be on equal grounds. Good luck

Be careful you dont want to put the kids through too much that they cannot handle. It should not matter that they went to school together and if you think that could influence a decision then ask to have another judge try your case. If this is what your heart desires fight for them with all you got. Good Luck!!!!!!!

Get ready to loose your shirt. I am so sorry, as grandparents, your rights are very unclear. This will cost you tens of thousands, and might not get any good results.
