Incredibly unlikey. It would require a huge landslide for one party. We're talking probably 70+ seats in the Senate for one party and at least 2/3 of the House in addition they would also have be in power long enough to replace a majority of the Supreme Court. As well as control a huge majority of State Houses and Governorships. As you can see this would be virtually impossible since the moderates in each party would never allow their own party to become so corrupt.

Dictators assume complete control by taking little bites at a time while the governed choose to ignore the threat until the last bite has been consumed and the power to oppose has been removed in that final bite.

We still have almost two years to stop the nibbling. Unfortunately, the governed will not wake up soon enough.

It doesnt matter, we have a court system designed to prevent that from ever happening. Checks and balances. Plus, the dictator would be impeached. There is also alot more involved than that. But to put it in shortest terms, no.

The insurection act of 1807 was reworded back in October which could pretty easily authorize the president to sic our own troops on us.
As we could very easily blame Bush, the democrats kept their mouths shut about this.
