I'm researching my paper for African American studies and on eof my topics is about Black men and the prison population. My sociology teacher gave me some stats and he had said to me that 2 out of 3 Black men between the ages of 18-35 will go to prison. I also asked this to my African American studies teacher and he said this stat was quite accurate. This scares me because I have two brothers and I'm afriad that one might go to prision. I know that they are good boys but I stilll worry.

the stat I have heard is 1 out 3 and its jail or prison. there is a big difference, since you can go to jail JUST FOR BEING A SUSPECT. or for not having ID, or all kind of stuff. But there is a big difference betwwen 2/3 going to prison and 1/3 going to prison OR jail.

BTW the prison population is about 44% white 38% black and 12% hispanic. That is according to the DOJ.

I hope that the statistics are wrong then as i think it was best if no one actually needed to go to prison. Hope they dont go there though.

Good luck with the paper btw

The majority of the population of most prisons are people of color. Most of this is because of gang related activity.
