I assume you mean the current Republican party. I've talked with life-long Republicans about this, and they say that the way the GOP is being run goes against core Republican values: limited government (Terri Shaivo intervention made a lot angry, broadscale wiretaps infuriated them), no foreign adventures (the bungled Iraq War made them angrier still), and a low deficit (with the deficit in the trillions, my GOP friends are NOT happy campers).

Some claim they are the "party of the rich", and only are concerned with doing what the rich want, some claim they are all "religious right", who want to control our behaviors, and some are just jealous because a lot of those IN government are wealthy, forgetting the fact that so are many Democrats in government; people in Washington don't get paid according to what political party they belong to. Besides, Republicans are a lot more liberal than they used to be(as evidenced by Bush Jr)., a true conservative would not have attacked a country that up till then had had NO terrorists, abducted its leader, been wide eyed with surprise when the terrorists that Saddam's rule had kept out came flooding in there, and racked up the largest debt in history, merely for the sake of assuaging his Daddy issues, and real conservatives if they were in congress, wouldn't have kept authorizing him to do it.

The Republican Party, in itself, is not upsetting. The people that are running it are. The core values of the Republicans are good values. But now the lesser "values" are being focused on more. Taking away the right to a private life (same-sex marriage, prayer in schools), freedom of religion (ten commandments in courtrooms, "under God" in the pledge), right to education (evolution debate) and an unlistable more. The Republican Party "members" now represent an oppressive dictatorship (Cheney himself calls for power to leave Congress and enter the White House). What ever happened to "give me liberty or give me death?" Now the Republicans cry "anything to keep me safe, king George!"

I resigned from the Republican party when it became apparent that they no longer supported a balanced budget or small government. Actually, the Republican party is more like a Liberal party these days with spending and government intrusion.

And Denny (below): not to be offensive, but honestly, it is thinking like yours that led to my leaving the party. You just keep buying the propaganda rather than analyzing things. You are blindly following the administration and FOX regardless of the disconnect between what they tell you and reality.

Right now, it's mostly the fact that they still support President Bush and his policies, even though everone knows that the justifications for the war in Iraq were intentionally falsified.

Also the fact that they (not all republicans, just the ones in charge) tend to ignore the constitution and bill of rights as often as they can get away with, specifically the first, fourth, and eighth amendments.

Their connection to the religious right does not help them either. Again, first amendment. "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion".

People are upset with Republicans because they believe in less government interference in your life. They believe in people getting off their collective butts and and out of the public welfare system. They believe in lowering taxes so people can keep more of their income to spend or save as they wish. They believe in self-responsibility. Well, I can really see how people would be upset with all of that! As far as the current administration, with the exception of the tax cuts, they behave more like Democrats than true Republicans.

Because of their hypocritical, simpering, pseudo-pious attitude and actions during the Clinton fiasco, and for their adherence to the same traits during the term of the present administration.

Because they are Republicans is all I can figure. They did it to Reagan too. I guess Carter and Clinton must have done something great, although no Dem can state what they did that was so great.

I'm not even American nd I can answer that one. The republican party stands for big business and the church. which means it is against unions, fair taxation, and equality for minorities. it stands for a reduction in human rights, and is against any affermative action for women and minorities. and right now, it stands for detention without trial which goes directly against your constitution
