Yes, I think it helps to know how to read and write, and an understanding of basic math also would help. I have known some pretty stupid educated people and some brilliant not so educated people. Remember this, a degree only means you know about a particular subject, it does not make you intelligent. Give me someone with integrity, honesty, humility, character, compassion and the drive to uphold those qualities and bring them out in others, that's a leader. I'll take one of those over a person with a bunch of letters behind their name.

Everyone in congress is educated to some degree, but they don't use it. They need to go to the school of commonsense. It is obvious they have none. Just because u have a degree, it doesn't mean u have knowledge. I have seen several people with advanced degrees, but are a few fries short of a Happy meal.

Yes they should be educated. Anyone who chooses not to get educated is dumb and makes poor decisions. And education provides them with a lot more insight then compared to someone that is smart but has nothing to back them up. I dont want someone stupid in our congress

I think it is accepted that those highest in the office of any government official are well-educated. I don't know how many high school drop outs you'll find working in Congress, except maybe as custodians.
(The exception, of course, are high school students working in Congress, in the Paige program, but that is a different story...)

Then you will end up with a KGB type government. Free and individual thinkers is the way to keep it. Just because one does not have the benefit of a formal education does not mean they are unfit. I know people with many degrees that can't keep a job or have enough sense to walk across the street.

Would you want a under educated person in Congress?? I think its about money, power, need to give back to society, and education.

Some of the brightest people I have ever met have had little education and some of the most educated people I've met I would consider morons.
I don't believe education is a prerequisite for leadership.

You don't actually 'work for the Congress.
Congress is the name for the group of legislators who make up a representative body for the US public (or so it's supposed to be).
Yes, people who are involved in making legislative decisions by voting on bills SHOULD be educated!

It's more about COMMON SENSE, just because somebody is BOOK smart, doesn't mean they KNOW anything outside of said books. After having been through school, NOT ONE THING IS USED in the real world
