No it is not because it is new, it is because it is nocturnal. They sleep all day and are awake all night.

My son's hamster sleeps about 23 hours a day and the rest he eats and runns on his wheel at 1 in the morning...so yes it's very normal.

Hamsters are nocturnal, they usually sleep most of the day. they may wake up to eat or drink. If you have wheel in the cage you will hear them running on the wheel at night.

If the Hamster is young, I would say they sleep a lot more than an adult.

yes, it is very normal. the hamster is just getting used to his/her surroundings. it was probably really hard at the pet store. having people tap the glass constantly, it was probably traumatized. or it ate to much and it is just sleeping it off. ether way, if it does not get more active in a week or so, talk to your vet.

They also sleep a lot during the day. They are most active at night.

hamsters are nocturnal, plus it's probably tired from "moving day."

good luck with your hamster
