I would like to buy some books from booksellers in The US of A. Can someone please give me a rough idea what it would cost to have them posted (or shipped some other way) to England.
I think a book would weigh about a pound in weight (wouldn't it?)
I looked on the 'net but could only find costs from UK to USA. Not all that helpful because there's differences in prices according to Cost of Living Indexes(and such-like).
What's the best way to ship them, please?
Mail, or Freight, or Ship, or What?
What do US booksellers normally do?
Anyway,Thanks for your Time.

Are you in the UK? I think most US booksellers use UPS or FedEx or some other shipping company because it's easier and they can get good bulk rates. Have you tried looking at the websites of US booksellers? For instance, amazon.com instead of amazon.co.uk? They show a rate of $4.49 per shipment plus $4.49 per item; that's about 2.25GBP per shipment and per item. They also charge an import fee deposit, which they use for customs fees, and return to you the unused amount. It didn't specify how much that was; it said they use software to calculate it for the individual order.
When my brother was in the Navy stationed on the other side of the US, I would ship him books to read on duty and he would mail them back when he was done. We always did it through the US Post Office, book rate, and it was very reasonable.
I hope this is helpful.

The US post office website is pretty easy to use, and it includes international rates: www.usps.gov

Keep in mind that business shippers may not offer options like book rate. An average HC book weighs about a pound, mass market pbks are probably 3 books = 2 Lbs.

Its pretty cheap depending on the book. THe post office actually has a "book rate". ask for it when you send the book. it is a little slower than 1st class but is reallly cheap.
