To get started with MSN Messenger it said that I needed to get a .NET Passport. My choices are, 1. Use any e-mail address to sign up for .NET Passport and 2. Sign up for free Hotmail account.

About the 'use any e-mail address', does that mean I could use any e-mail e.g. @yahoo.com, @gmail.com or any other e-mail address? Or does it have to be a Hotmail address?

I would like to keep from having to get a Hotmail address if I can but if I have to, I guess then I will just have to.

Will I need to login to the Hotmail e-mail address to keep the account active or will just logging in to MSN Messenger be good enough?

Thanks.

Well, when you sign up for MSN messenger...you most likely need a hotmail account. Although, it is possible that you can have a yahoo id while using msn messenger. My friend used some kind of program that lets you use your yahoo in msn, he doesn't know what he used to do this ( because it was so long ago). But whenever he wants to change his password...it will never change when he signs in to messenger. so hopefully this helps you a bit....

You can use any email address you want gmail, yahoo, aol etc. Hotmail accounts do not need to be logged into for messenger purposes however it would go inactive for emails though.
