Forget about U.S.40. Get on I-70 westbound. Take it all the way to St. Louis. As soon as you cross the Mississippi River, hop on a little stretch of I-55. Take I-55 south towards Memphis. You'll only go a mile or two on I-55, so be alert. Right after you hop on I-55, get on I-44 westbound towards Tulsa. Now you can relax. You'll stay on I-44 all the way to Oklahoma City. You will have to pay a toll in Oklahoma. Right before you get to Oklahoma City, hop on I-35 southbound. In the middle of town you will see I-40. Get on I-40 westbound. Now your off the toll road. I-40 will get you real close to L.A. Take I-40 till it ends. It ends in Barstew California. When I-40 ends, it will feed you into I-15. Take I-15 south into L.A. Don't let St. Louis, Oklahoma City, Indianapolis, or Albuquerque scare you. If your from Columbus, I'm sure you'll do fine.

Take I-70 W to the middle of Utah. It ends there. From there, take I-15 S to LA. Also, I-80 W runs from northern Ohio to San Francisco. You may want to check the weather first. It's going to be snowing out that way on Tuesday on I-70. You may want to head south and take I-10 from Texas to LA to avoid poor weather.

Well, there aren't any roads that stretch directly from Ohio to California; that's quite a distance! Google Maps will give you the most direct route though, and will help you to keep from getting lost.

I don't think there is one. I would go south to I-40 and then go west to California. Talk about a long drive.
