There are two election methods for the senate: according to the Constitution and according to the 17th amendment. Can any one tell me the difference?

The difference is very important here. The 17th Amendment granted popular election of senators, while the Constitution called for election by the state legislatures. Essentially, senators were direct representation for the several states, as entities unto themselves, and representatives were reps for the people, or citizenry.

The idea sounds good, but I think you will find popular election of senators robbed states, as political entities, of representation, and increased entitlements and other federal spending.
