basically any place where people have expanded into a large population is a civilization. Egypt gained power as all others have before and after, based on geography. Egypt is not that far from the "fertile crescent" making it easier in ancient times to settle down and expand.

The States is not a civilization like my country Egypt. So I agree with you.

I have some rather bad news for you. The US is not a civilisation. It is just another country belonging to western civilisation which derives from Greek and Roman civilisations. The Egyptians derive from a different civilisation with an equally long history. No matter how you wish to approach this The Egyptians have been around unimaginably longer than the US which is literally the new kid on the block. You are obviously in confusion between civilised and civilisation. Civilised is a rather vague term and tends to be racist. It's open to interpretaion. and is usualy a comparison.
«I’m civilised compared to you" really means that my way of life is better than yours. You, unfortunately, do not share in my conviction but believes the opposite to be true. Civilisation on the other hand is not open to opinion. I will not belabour the point. The Greek civilisation is not an opinion, ditto the Roman and Egyptian and Chinese and on down the line to Western civilisation and Islamic civilisation. But a few examples. No American Civilisation unless of course you are referring to the Aztecs, Toltec, Incas etc. civilized has moral implications in it and tends to be ephemeral. What OK behaviour yesterday is not today and tomorrow it will mutate into something. Civilisation does not bother with that Civilisations are simply different. They are not better or worse than others. Being "civilised» is just one of the many manifestations of Civilisation. The US in no more a civilisation than the USSR was. They both exist within the parameters of Western civilisation. There must be something in the conceptualisation of the cosmic all in these various civilisations because the surviving ones today have impressive numbers of followers and adherents. There is no absolute Right or Wrong. Look at it a geographical accident. You are born here in civilisation A and not there in civilisation B.

It "was" a civilization some thousands of years ago.
United states is a civilization based and built on the sweat and blood of the slaves brought from Africa, it's also was based on anhiliation of native inhabitants and mass murders of the Indians so that they take their lands.. colonialism.

So, Egypt was nothing like US, Egypt was a civilization not only because the pyramids or monuments or those things but the social, ethical and religuous teachings at that time made it a true great civilization.

A civilization is something like an advanced state of human society, in which a high level of culture, science, industry, and government has been reached. Egypt was like this some thousands years ago, Every country is a civilization, but certain countries are more civilized like America and England are more civilized than somewhere like Nigeria. Egypt is considered a civilization like America, but America has a more advanced civilization than Egypt..

I hope i helped..x

I'm not sure if I understand the question exactly but after perusing the answers, I feel compelled to give an opinion. I am an American, living in America and we are probably too young a country to be considered a civilization in the traditional or ancient sense. Also, we are too diverse to be properly called an actual civilization. Despite what the international media would have you believe about Americans, we as a people, do not hate people from other countries,in fact we welcome them with open arms....it is one of our oldest traditions. Ours is a country made of immigrants and they bring with them the cultures, traditions and mores of their native lands. We don't demand conformity, rather we embrace diversity and in this respect,we will never be an actual civilization because as I understand it, the people of an individual civilization share common backgrounds, religions, traditions and goals. We absorb, adapt and adopt aspects of all the cultures of probably every civilization on earth as it is brought to us. We are an imperfect people but our collective conscience is one of repentance as well as forgiveness. Please don't judge all Americans on the basis of any present administration.....we don't always make the best choices for our leadership and that is why our forefathers included a limit to the length of time someone could stay in power in our constitution and hopefully it will work again. Also please don't believe all the bad things you hear about Americans....we are human as are you and we make mistakes. We don't want to rule the world,we only want to live in it and and for it to be the beautiful peaceful world that God intended. America is the best of the people who reside there, regardless of the circumstances or locations of their birth. We are not a civilization but we are for the most part, a civilized, caring, faith-filled and generous people.

From my viewpoint, it’s the social, economic & educational growth that will take place in any country; will determine either it’s civilized or not.
Egypt's economy goes both ways, export & import. Expert will look at the economic variations between the past & the present.

I was reading this article the other day, & Egypt is considered Human Development Index rank. Which is:
The Human Development Index (HDI) is a comparative measure of life expectancy, literacy, education, and standard of living for countries worldwide. It is a standard means of measuring well-being, especially child welfare. It is used to determine and indicate whether a country is a developed, developing, or underdeveloped country and to measure the impact of economic policies on quality of life.

Year after year, Egypt – like other countries in the region – is making more major steps toward the capitalist democracies. With hard work in all government's fields, efforts will progress.

I hope you will like my answer.
I am very optimistic about the Middle East.

"civilization like the united states"!!!!!!

And why should we call US a civilized country??
Civilization is an ethical behaviour rather than technological advance and even if it was mix of both then probably it still won't be fair to call the US a civilzed country , while they miss the most important part of it which is: Ethical Civilization..

From this pint of view I would not even assume Americans (being racist irrogant people) as civilized .................

well, let us start by defining what a civlisation is;

Human society that has developed material and spiritual resources and complex cultural, political and legal organization; an advanced state in social development.

So, it is not directly related to the level of development, it is more about society's ability to have systems to their daily lives, politics, economy etc. Civlisation is not about money, cars, buildings etc. This is how we nowadays tend to define how advanced a society is.

Anicent Egypt is one of the first civlisations that was able to establish solid systems that govern the everyday life of its people. There were laws, taxes, schooling, agriculture, commerce, complex engineering that is beyond today's scientists etc. All this qualified ancient Egypt to become one of the world's leading civlisations. At that time Europe, Asia etc were nomads, the U.S did not even exist.
