STudent A is at 50 kilograms above a diving pool(on the board ready to jump) and student B is at 40 kg. However, Student B is at a higher level. STudent B has more potential energy than student A. WHY???

Because he is quite a bit higher than student A. You've no doubt been learning the necessary formulae to compute how much higher he needs to be - don't be lazy, do it!

Student B has more potential energy than Student A since...

PE = mgh

where
PE = Energy (in Joules)
m = mass (in kilograms)
g = gravitational acceleration of the earth (9.8 m/sec2)
h = height above earth's surface (in meters)

If you plug in the values you gave in your problem you shouldn't have a probelm calculating the answers. The reason why is because of height, the height jacks up the potential energy. The height that student A is at must be less than 4/5 the height of B in order for B to have more PE. You get this by setting the PE equations for each student equal to one another.

Potential Energy = Mass x Acceleration of Gravity x Height over a surface

so depending on how much higher student "B" is than student "A", they could overcome the difference in mass.

Potential Energy is just the Height*Mass*Gravity, so if Student B is twice as high as student A, student B will have more potential energy even though he is lighter.

okay this deals with the gravitational potential energy of an object

potential energy = Mass * 9.8 (g) * H (height)

the more height you have the more energy (potential) you have

E = mgh

because the longer you fall in air the faster gravity pulls you but something can only free fall up to 156mph(rollercosters do not free fall)
