All chemical reactions are balanced perfectly; learning Chemistry is learning how to express that. It's the same as balancing your checkbook, really.

It is important to balance an equation so that you know how much of everything is required for a chemical reaction to take place. For example,
Cu + 4H + SO4>>> ..... If you didn't have the 4 in front of the Hydrogen, there would be no reaction because there is not enough Hydrogen atoms for the reaction to take place. My explanation is basic. I hope that is what you are looking for

ugh. thats what im doing in chemistry this month too.
you have to have a balanced equation so you can find the mol ratios, which from those, you can find how much of a substance you would need, or if one product has 1.2 mol of something, you can find out how much of the other product you have to have.

You have to do it becuz the law of the conservation of mass, stating, that the reactants on the left have to equal the products on the right.
