First, it's clear that you totally don't understand your daughter at all. *insert strange teen slang* equates to "I don't care enough to try and understand what she is saying" If you want to find out what the deal is, try listening to her and maybe making an attempt to understand.
Also calling someone "sexy" is objectivizing. Girls hate being objectivized more than most guys do.
I seriously suggest that you put way more effort into listening and maybe ATTEMPTING to understand her, because apparently, you're failing miserably.
Just because she's 14 and you're more than twice that, doesn't mean that you can't have a coherent conversation. A little effort goes a long way. Listen when she talks. Don't write off things as "random teen bla bla bla" because that is total bullshit, and you know it.

Well, it probably offended her. I'm 16, if my mom said i had a sexy shirt, it wouldn't offend me, but if it was some guy i, myself, didn't know, i might be a little weirded out...doubt it, but i cant say i wont, unless im there. Now, some teens find parents embarrassing, i dont...i love my mom, i ask her how my outfit looks. Maybe your daughter thought you were hinting to that guy, something wrong..Well, all i have to say is, look to see if she wears the shirt again, she may be embarrassed that YOU, her parent thinks of a shirt she has on is sexy..teens are weird, we all have such the same personality, yet soo different..When i was her age, i probably thought it would be weird, but now, i dont care..As long as its not too slutty im fine..

uh i'd be creeped out if my dad said i looked sexy. 14 is an akward age with puberty and all. I remember i had some odd moments with my dad. I advise you to never call your daughter sexy again. Its creepy. You call people you like or are attracted to sexy. so why would you say ur daughters sexy? Just be more fatherly and less friend like. Fathers dont call their daughters sexy.

Dude-the correct answer would have been either a. "you are too young for that, go change RIGHT NOW!" or "Great."
You don't tell your teenage daughter what you told yours-and why is she playing poker with "the guys" anyway??? Just how many beer guts were at your trailer that night?

Don't use the word sexy when you're talking about your daughter. It's incredibly creepy and plain wrong. No girl wants to hear that from her father.

She probably feels offended. Maybe she thought you made fun of her by saying she looks "sexy." Just tell her that you didn't mean to offend her and hurt her feelings or make her feel uncomfortable. It's for the best!

Sorry dude she dont exactly want your aproval. Teens are rebelous you do not remember being a teen yourself? If you told her its too revealing and you hate it or something then she would have been happy. You gave her your approval thats why she got mad. at least thats what i think

well sometimes ( i am that age and have experienced it) it can be reeeeeeeeeeally embarrasing for one of your parents to say that around a bunch of other ppl. its gets us mad wen a comment like that comes from a mom or dad. its happnede to me and im pretty sure its happened to every other teenager. most of the times i just blow up inside and not show it, or i just take it as a compliment!!

MOST TEENS GET ANGRY AT US WHEN WE SAY ANYTHING LIKE "SEXY" OR USE ANY TYPE OF WORDS THAT REFER TO SEX. FOR SOME, IT MAKES THEM FEEL REALLY UNCOMFORTABLE. WE JUST HAVE TO DEAL WITH IT AND MOST TIMES WE SPEND OUR TIME EXPLAINING WHAT WE MEAN. I HAD TO COME UP WITH A DIFFERENT WAY OF EXPRESSING MYSELF TO BOTH MY SON AND MY DAUGHTER. THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH WHAT YOU SAID. GOOD LUCK. SOUNDS LIKE YOU'RE IN FOR A LOT OF SCRATCHING OF THE HEAD!
