I would NOT get the core duo, but the core 2 duo instead. Since on a budget, it would be far better getting a AMD x2 series, 2gb of ram, and the best video card you can get. (staying with winXP). The 8800 will outperform the 2 7900 cards up to 1600x1200.

And this will give you an idea of how much you have to push a sli or crossfire to outperform a single gpu.

And don't bother with directx10 cards, as they are useless until directx10 games are out, and it will be awhile.

There are no benchmark comparisons for the 8800 GT yet as they simply been released and the PCI show 2.0 remains new contained obtainable. yet I pay attention one evaluate internet site say it extremely is overall performance lie someplace between the 8800GTS and the 8800GTX. in spite of the undeniable fact that, there are comments that evaluate 7900's in SLi with a single 8800 GTS...and the 8800 performs a touch greater useful.

In general, it's best to stick with one card. Why? SLI is not support on most games. It cannot take full advantage of SLI if the game doesn't support it. Maybe in the near future more games will support SLI, but in general it doesn't. Plus you use a lot more power for SLI and require a heftier power supply. As far as benchmarks are concerned, 2 7900s should be slightly faster than 8800.

Oh, yeah. 7900 series doesn't support DX10 either.

Stick with the 8800 and try to get e6600 instead of the e6300

I would go with single card generally because it allows for future upgrade without getting rid of a card.

you will need the 8x series cards to fully utilize DirectX 10.
