now a days people are calling the large long wide thing people sit on in the living room a couch, has anyone ever heard of a couch sleeper or is it a sofa sleeper? Also when you go into a larger furniture store which do you see when the department are labeled couch or sofa?, couch to me is so 60's and i'm from that time era

davenport is from the early 60's so she is dating herself
and the only time couch sounds right is couch potato

ok let me ask it this way don't you think couch, sounds sorta hillbilly backwoods trailer parkish & sofa sounds more like the proper name & yes loveseat is the smaller one

I call it a "sofa". I don't like the word "couch".

I usually call it the couch. I've also heard divan and sofa. I've heard the type with the bed called sleeper sofa or pull out couch.

I say couch. I've heard it called sofa and davenport.

I hear it being called "sofa sleeper" never "couch sleeper".

I've always used couch...Some of my relatives use sofa, though...I really don't know the difference in the words, though...

Well I am a French speaker and we say "sofa".... I don't know which is right in English though :p
