Sims2 Hair/clothing?

You know how people on youtube post videos and their sims have new hair that aren't on the expansion packs.. How did they get the new hair and clothing? Please tell.. If they are patches PLEASE give me the site. Thanks! >:P

They download them from websites like:
thesimsresource.com and xmsims.com.
There are instructions on these websites that tell you how to get them into your game. It's very easy and free.
