Sadly no!! The universities are ranked with Oxbridge at the top, followed by the big five 'red brick' universities. Top employers are unlikely to even interview you with a degree from a lowly institution!! I know as I work for a top 5 accountancy firm - you would not be offered an interview, as we get so many oxbridge applicants, often 100+ for one position.
Get into the best uni you can, even if you cant get onto the course you want, often you will be able to switch once you are there as they will want to keep numbers up and not lose good students. But make sure you are a good student.

From an employer's perspective, the importance is not so much the University as the course content and recognition.
In many professions there is a professional body (institute or royal society) that accredits the various courses. If you are looking to choose a University then look at which ones have accredited courses for your chosen subject.

In a perfect world we would all like to think that someone who got a 1st at Manchester Metropolitan University, would have a better chance at landing a certain job, than somone who got a 3rd at Oxford, but sadly that is not the case! The stamp of your university on your graduate diploma is what counts 75/25...DAMN!

it's all to do with market value-some courses are relatively worthless and some so called universities give awards that are worthless even in skills that are in short supply,Stick to any course in one of the top 20 or so Universities and you can't go too far wrong.Universities these days vary in standard like schools-think of your local bog comprehensive-that's what the poorest uni's are like-with many layabouts.
