Gerard Way believes that death comes for you in the form of your fondest memory. In Welcome To The Black Parade "the patient's" fondest memory is going to see a parade with his father. So as he dies in the hospital death comes for him in the form of a black parade.

its about 'the patient', who, when he dies in a hospital, view death coming for him in the form of a parade, in this case the black parade. The whole album centers around this kind of thing, and is not against God or emo. it just shows how people view death, and welcome to the black parade is the main song that expresses that.

the song (actually, the entire album) is about "patient" and he's gonna die, but before he does he remembers a parade that his father took him to when he was young. When he does die, the black parade is the form of death.
what the entire song and album is saying: death is going come for you in whatever form you want it to be. It can be a past event (black parade for example) or it can be in the form of a person or animal. It'll be w/e you want.
