Well the first step is taking the class. If I were you I wouldnt worry that much, if it's acting 1, then the teacher will teach you how to lose a little bit your shyness.
A friend of mine took the class this year, and she was wondering just the same. But she's learned a lot of how to loosen herself, and it has really helped her to sharpen her comunications skills.
She told me that first, the teacher asked them to read things out loud for the class, but just to read, then within a few days or weeks whenever each student was ready, they would stand in front of teh class to read out loud on stage, and so on, until they felt confortable with each other and eventually they acted some plays.
I dont know if it's the same in your school, but she told me it was a great experience, and she was very shy, but now she is a lot more outgoing.
Good luck, and dont be afraid, you'll do fine

well you could start doing drugs until reality seems fake and you dont even notice the people around you. And since you wont be aware of anybody else, there will be nobody to be shy in front of....
or you could just do what makes you happy and realize that the kids you go to high school with are only going to be around for 4 years. You shouldnt let people that are only a part of your life for a short while influence something that could change your life forever, like becoming an actor.

Just take a deep breath, relax and make some time to really think about it. What is really the big deal about what others think? I'm sure that you'll do great, and all you have to do is think positive and everything will work out. If possible, can you take a speech class to ease your mind about speaking in front of others? No matter what happens, just be confident in yourself. Practice your lines until you are completely comfortable. Forget about the audience watching- just do what you are up there to do. 99.99% of the time you do better than you think you are going to. If all else fails, try the old tried-and-true trick- imagining everyone in their underwear. I wish you the best of luck!

I just got outta high school and realized alot of things about how I acted now that im alot more mature. First, its not possible to have all people not make fun of you. Second, ask yourself this, is it possible to have everyone like me? No, its not. who cares what anyone says about you? I mean really, think about it. Nobody is perfect.
Also, as for advice, dont look at acting as acting. Think of it as real, and not some script or play. Make it be a real life situation for yourself. I guarentee this this will help.

Don't be shy, last semester at my school I had to sing in front of the whole school and I was really nervous and I was shy too but when I got on stage and sang I didn't get nervous no more because everyone liked how I sang and danced.

Think about if they were the one preforming. If you would laugh at them then go ahead and feel guilty, and just go on preforming the play knowing that if someone else were up there then you would laugh at them. If you wouldn't laugh at them then chances are they won't laugh at you. if they still do laugh then get over it...thats apart of the preforming arts. You have to take critizism. And usually there not even critizizing you, there just mad because they wouldn't have the courage to preform.

Practice. Know it in and out. The more comfortable you feel in what you're doing , the easier it will be to just do it. And practice in a group to get used to doing it in front of people.
