My Signum which I bought recently has a vibration at 70-80 MPH. I have had the tyres balanced which made no difference and the technician said that because the car was quite new that it was unlikely to be the suspension. The car is fitted with budget tyres which are quite hard. The guy from the garage thought that the budget tyres could be causing the vibration due to the hardness of the rubber. Is this possible or will I just be wasting money if I buy a new set of tyres?

Could be a number of things, but I would suspect either a bent wheel, or possibly your tire pressure is too high for your car. Also make sure your wheels are balanced dynamically and not statically. Statically balanced wheels are not as well balanced as dynamically balanced wheels.

Definitions of balancing:
Dynamically=weights on inside and outside edges of wheel lip
Statically=weights on inside centered between inward and outward faces

It could be quite possible that it is the budget tyres that areat fault, on, is there any damage to wheels steering or suspension. Please let me know if i have been of any help.ly way to find out is to put rear on front if it still does it then try and borrow a set of front whels with good tyres just to see if that is the prob. There could be some sort of minor imbalance on tyre rubber which is only noticed at the speed u say.

You can reduce the tyre pressures by 2 lb.But if the car is secondhand it may have had damage to the front end.Suspension is a likely problem.Either way this fault needs rectification at once. I suggest you do not drive at speeds in excess of 50 mph until the problemis fixed.

if you get it at 70 mph that's wheel balance so take it back and tell them the balance is faulty could have the wrong lead clips on or have fallen off its nothing to do with your tyres

It could be the tires yes, it probably is actually. I wouldn't waste the money on getting new tires, just don't drive so fast. For every 5mph you drive over 55 you spend 13 cents more per gallon of gas anyway.
