Patients need to understand that the 3D ultrasounds are really cool, and a heck of a lot of fun...but diagnostically they are no better than a regular prenatal ultrasound.( with the exception of looking at known facial/limb deformities). the point of your 18 to 22 week ultrasound is to see INTO the fetus and look at all of the organs and make sure that they are developing properly. The 3D doesn't DO that. it's more of a surface rendering. It's a Bonus . Like the cherry on top . The ice-cream sundae is the important part...the cherry just kicks it up a notch. :-)
Prices of 3D/4D varries greatly depending on availability and location . Some doc have units in the office , some hospitals perform them ..but the most common place is an Ultrasound studio. there you saign a waiver , and get a DVD , and pictures . And it's really great fun and a great bonding experience with your child . Keep in mind though ...it's not ( in 99% of cases) DIAGNOSTIC. have your routine 20 weeks sacn first , then schedule your 3D. You should be at least 22 to 24 weeks for a 3D/4D...but I've dont 26 to 28 is optimal. there needs to be enough body fat on baby , and enough amniotic fluid to create a great sonographic window.
Have fun , GOOD LUCK , and remember a healthy baby is most important! :-)

I had two 3-D ultrasounds done, I live in California, San Diego County and they do it here for cheap! The first one I got done, I was 19 weeks, and it cost about $99 because I got it done on the weekday. I got another one done at 25 weeks and it cost $120.00 because we got it done during the weekday, we also got a military discount off ours, they gave us another discount because it was our second time there. I REALLY recommend waiting till at least 25 or 28 weeks, the 19 weeks ultrasound, my baby looked so cute, but I couldn't really tell what everything was, there wasn't any body fat. The 2nd one I got, I LOVED it! There was a little fat and I could actually see the baby's face.....I wish I can get another one done, but my husband and I decided that was enough and we didn't want to disturb the baby. Good luck on finding a good place, make sure you ask them to focus on the face! We got a DVD of the 4-D ultrasound, 8 3-D pictures, and a picture frame. :)

I had one at 20 weeks it was amazing. My baby was still pretty bony because she had less than 1 % body fat at that time but I could see her face and who she looked most like. I am now 26 weeks and I am getting another one done on thursday. Most places I have talked to recommend having them between 25 and 28 weeks so the baby has more fat on their body and you can see them better. After 28 weeks they tend to be to crowded in there. I found mine at a day spa specializing in pregnant women. I used google and typed in the 3d ultrasound and put in my hometown and state and it gave me a list. of places that offered it. It cost me 185.00 I got 5 pictures a dvd of it and I got to watch it when they were actually doing it on a 52 inch plasma tv.

google search them for locations? I know it depends on how long/what you get for price- but usually like 150-400 bucks.... also they are better to be done later in pregnancy- ie- 20 weeks - around the time you would have your 'normal' ultrasound.

I just had a 4-D. I am 31 wks. $200.00 for a 15 min. DVD, CD-ROM which you can get photos off of ( I had 24) and 6 black and white photos printed off of the machine. Very nice experience. Big screen tv to watch while they are doing it . Chairs for family to sit on.
