why was this guys car knockin?

I was in the parkin lot at school and somebody had and old car but the knock was so bad in it, take the sound of a motor runnin and knocking on a door and put em together. thats what it sounded like, is he about to throw a rod?

sounds like a rod if it was a bauble knock it could be a wrest pin.

The timing was probaly off real bad, and he had bad or low octane gas too.
