My brother says he can smell winter where as i say that winter doesnt have a distinct smell so he cant smell winter. I was just wondering if there is any scientific explanation that could settle this arguement (perticularily in my favour if possible). Thanks

Yep. I can smell spring... it has something to do with all the muck here in Florida warming up, and all the plants blooming...

You can't necessarily smell the season, but you can smell the ambient smells of the season.

Everyones senses are different. For example, it is a known fact that if you loose one of your senses the others strengthen, like a blind person knowing when someone is in the room by way of sound or smell. Therefore, yes, I believe one can smell a particular season if they know their environments surrounding atmosphere. A tree for example, will produce a stronger scent when the sap is secreted which happens in certain seasons. The air also changes density in different temperatures allowing scents to be carried easier.
