seriously, i've failed to find any band as good for a long time. AFI sounds good. any suggestions?

Just stick with A.F.I and Rise Against. Seriously.
Then listen to old classic bands like
Minor Threat
Dead Kennedys
The Misfits
The Ramones
Black Flag
Discover other influential bands.

go to pandora.com and enter Rise Against on the music player. it will create a free radio station for you of artists and songs that are similar to your taste. if you have a favorite RA song, enter the song name, and it will give you songs similar to that one. i use this site every day while i'm at work!
