He's running for President and this is a very important time in his political career. So that means that you can expect 99% of the things coming out of his mouth to be GRADE A bullsh@#%.

Any good statesman must be able to both shape AND follow the will of the people. Senator McCain was just asking a legitimate question to guage the mood of the people. Any one, even the most brilliant minds in the world, can always use a fresh pair of eyes on a problem to see things that might have been overlooked. Who knows? Something useful might result.
On the other hand, expecting to get a sane, rational, or reasonable response on Yanswers is a serious case of wishful thinking.
Your accusation that our politicians are all crooks, has been made ever since our nation was founded. No doubt some of them are. If you think they are all crooks, why don't you stand for office and try to replace one of them. Simple solution.

i dont believe ALL politicians are crooks, some are in it for thier own reasons only, but some truly want to change america for the better and attempt to do that in the best way they see fit. EG, i think Al Gore is an idiot, i do nto care for his idelas in genral, but i believe he has integrity and believes in waht he is doing and attmpets to do the best he can. i also think the smae of joe lieberman, john mccain and george bush among many others. senator mccain is attempting to find out what america thinks is the problem with our country using a very viable tool, the internet

If you take the question seriously, you know there are ways to control government spending. The Presidential power of line item veto is one. Using the criminal court system to punish business owners who receive government contracts for their services and "pad" their invoices or do shoddy work is another.
If we throw our hands up and say "we can't do anything about it", our country might as well be a dictatorship.

This is probably a great place for political strategists to gather reactions to a candidate's platform. Hillary queried us on national health care. We know that will be a big part of her platform. McCain is probably going to focus on government spending in his.
They don't have a lot to lose by doing this. They give the impression that they're listening to the voters, and can see how voters will react. If they have a big staff, they can even tabulate answers into various categories and adjust their campaign speeches accordingly, focusing on the popular issues.

I think that it's good that Sen. McCain is asking us about spending. The people rule in the US, not the Government. However, I doubt that spending will ever go down as much as it should.

If politicians really wanted to cut spending, 90% of them would be working in the private sector [likely at an unskilled service job like taco bell] or unemployed.

You're ABSOLUTELY right. It's just some lame election ploy. He doesn't give a crap about the USA or common citizens, he's just trying to get elected. It's lip service, and that is ALL.
