Why is John McCain on Yahoo! Answers asking US what to do about wasteful spending in Washington? He has been in the Senate majority for 20 years and hasn't done anything about it.
With all due respect to the Senator, isn't he part of the problem and not part of the solution?

NavyMom, I did make a suggestion to Mr McCain. I said that he should ask everyone who complains about wasteful spending to offer up one program that they personally benefit from for elimination or drastic cutting.
I'll let you know if I get picked as "best answer"

He's asking because he wants to run for President. He's one of the better Republicans out there, but right now the Democrats are the party of fiscal responsibility and he knows it. He's asking the question, but he's going to do what every Republican has: slash domestic programs and beef up the military. In short, everything that has done so well for us under W.

I'm glad you asked that question I've been trying to get back to that since I logged onto this this thing. For my money, (and this wouldn't take a whole lot of doing which means it'll never happen), what they should do is give the government accounting office (the GOA) some teeth. I would like to see the GOA be able to say to all the Gov. Depts. " Look, if you guys can't account for every penny that you spend on God knows what, and that means all of you,: You ain't getting no more money until you do." Of course we all know when THAT will happen. weezingeezer

The best thing we could do about wasteful spending in Washington D.C. would probably be to vote for his opponent in '08.
Unlike you sir, I have no respect for the senator. He should have stood up to Bush in South Carolina. I would however, always defend his mothers right to choose.

It's a fishing expedition for 2 reasons.
1. He want's to get a feel for what the public feels so he can change his tune again like he does everytime he steps in front of a different crowd.
2. It's a fishing expedition to see how much the U.S citizens really know about the corruption (including his) that is going on in Washington.

Elected officials should donate their salaries to charity or even refuse them. That would cut out millions of dollars each year in Washington spending.
They can easily live on the graft they receive each year from lobbyists.

With all due respect, why turn down the opportunity to give an answer? You have the chance to be heard, why not take it?
