Only an idiot would ask that.
The answer is no, in case you can't work it out for yourself that physical mutilation as a punishment for non-violent crimes is absurd.

Saudi is a police state using rules like these and it's a really safe society to live in.

Let's face it, no matter how barbaric we may think it is, it bloomin well works!!! A thief will think twice before doing it again eh?

The rules would have to be really strict though, don't cut off a hand for a first time offense for stealing a stamp or something you know. But perhaps repeat offenders stealing serious stuff and causing grief or endangering lives etc should? perhaps their 10th offence may involve removal of a digit instead.

If the threat is there it can be used as a deterrent surely? More than anything.

Should we Gastrate serial rapists? I think we should make them eunochs personally! Take away their weapon. If the police aren't allowed guns (UK), why should rapists be allowed c***ks?

Depends on what they steal i think:
toilet paper = Night in jail
My Super Surfstar Rock guitar T-1 costing £250 = Hands straight off!

Lol, only Joking, on a serious side i believe they should be Put in jail, the stolen goods returned and from then on in they are kept on a profile which monitors them, and if they commit another crime, say they steal something again, they get a doubled sentence.
EG: First time they got a night in Prison --> Two nights --> Four Nights --> 8 Nights etc etc

On the other hand (no pun intended) Some people believe that cutting a persons hands off for committing a none violent act, like me and gav (a previous answerer) because its an extremely harsh punishment for such a simple crime. Although, i can see where people who believe in corporal punishment come from in their beliefs, because, lets face it, if that were the punishment no one would try it again. Well unless they wanted to get their hands cut off, which is crazy, am sure anyone in their right mind wouldn't want that :D

Thanks,
-Sean

just to be locked up would be good but hey, didn't you know, in the UK our prisons are full up - it is a free for all over here for crime - whatever you want to do goes pretty much unpunished!
