Really depends on how severe the case is. ( what did he do when he claim to be a law officer ?) He can be booked from 1 charge or 20 charges .. and a judge gives his sentence.

The more charges given , the more crap he's going to have to dig himself out of .

It is a crime to falsely impersonate a police officer, a federal officer or employee, or any other public official. Although the laws vary from state to states, many states also consider it a crime to use equipment used by law enforcement officers, such as red and blue flashing lights. It also may be a crime to flash a fake police badge. Possession of a firearm also can enhance the penalty for false impersonation of a police officer.

Depending on state law, impersonating a police officer maybe considered either a felony or a misdemeanor. Punishments for impersonating a police officer include:

Imprisonment up to five years (sometimes more)
Fines (usually $1000 or more)
Probation
Permanent criminal record

Well, it's illegal to impersonate a police officer then try to get people to do something illegal....for example, you can't impersonate a police officer, start ringing doorbells, and ask people personal questions or search their homes for drugs. However, you are perfectly free to buy a police officer costume, stand in a local park, and see how many people jaywalk or use good manners versus how many people jaywalk or use good manners when you are just dressed in regular clothes.
