Have you guys ever heard about the crisis in Darfur?

There is a region in Sudan called Darfur. Since 2003, groups of armed gunmen made up of nomadic Arab tribes have been running around the ares. Calling themselves the Janjaweed, they began to attack the Christian population of Darfur.

And, surprise! The Janjaweed are a government funded gang, basically.

Thousands of people die everyday. Thousands of women and children have been raped at gun point. Hundreds of thousands of people have fled Sudan to its neighbor, the country of Chad. It was their safe haven.

Until now.

The Janjaweed have have begun to form groups in Chad, killing the people who fled there for safety.

The U.S. have done almost nothing so far. Pres. Bush signed a petition in 2006 promising to do something about this atrocity. So far he has not kept his promise.

I am disgusted at how little the general public knows about this. My friend and I are currently setting up a charity dance in North

Carolina to give money to African refugees of Darfur. We have called several stores asking for them to fund us and everytime we tell the person what charity this is for they always ask "for what?" No one knows about this. No one.

If you are interested in coming to the dance email dancefordarfur07@yahoo.com for more information. This dance is for highschool aged people ONLY! AND WE MEAN ONLY!!!!!

This is a new genocide.

This is a new holocaust.

Do something

P.S. The Janjaweed are government funded

This is old news. The UN has finally gotten forces over there, but no one could do anything because the Sudan government refused to admit it was a problem. Therefor, no one could go in and do anything without declaring war on the Sudan. It is a tragic situation, but one that has calmed down a lot in the past two months.

Look around and dig deeper, this is happening in many places such as Indonesia, other African nations, the Philippines, just too name a few. Kudos for awakening to this and trying to provide relief. Don't restrict your fund raising to teens. Good luck and pray for this cruel world.
