Start like this:

There are many things that we do not totally understand, but strive to.
There are many occurances in life, that baffles us and leaves us wondering; especially when it has to do with health. Mental health.

Today, I will be talking about a mental disorder that we have all, one way or another, been made aware of; but are not necessarily aware of what it really entails.
I will be speaking on Bipolar Disorder.

You can always edit it to sound like you! :)
goodluck!

Start with something interesting that most people don't know. Compare it to something to make it easier to explain...like this:

Imagine yourself in the shower. The nice warm water is on you and suddeny the water turns super cold. That's bipolar disorder. According to the Websters dictionary, bipolar disorder is a mental condition that creates manic and depressive states in people that shift quickly. A definition does not do justice to a disease that affects millions of Americans......

I was taught to start off an essay with a quote.
In your case, maybe some quote by a researcher or doctor about people that suffer from bipolar disorder. Or you could find a humorous quote to start off your essay with, and then say something like although bipolar disorder is taken lightly by some, it is no laughing matter. and go on to say how horrible it is.

Start your paper like this, 'Bi-polar disorder affects approximately, GET BEHIND ME, SATAN! Which can lead to extreme shifts in, WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING AT BALLSACK, as you can see, living with bipolar disorder is, YOUR MAMA IS A WHORE! I realize that this opening is a bit unorthodox, but I believe that bi-polar disorder creates such instances in real people's lives.'

If that's not your cup of tea, you could always do the dry, tired, thing of acting like you are an expert, put your teacher to sleep and get a middle of the road grade.

Do a narrative or description of the thoughts going through a bi-polar person's mind.

"She wakes up, looks around and does not know where she is. Last night is a blur and somehow she's ended up on a park bench in some city where she's never been, a bus ticket in her pocket saying she has travled 300 miles from home..."

This is like a description of what some manics go through when they have been off their meds and go do crazy stuff all night.

Some people end up naked, gambling all night, stealing cars and doing all kinds of wierd stuff when they go through a bi-polar episode.

This topic is too popular. People write about this kind of stuff all the time so the teacher knows a whole lot about it probably.. If she knows a whole lot about it and you mess up on something it will be easy for her to see it and say "Oh your wrong".. Pick something she or the class may not know about so you dont have to be exact precise on everything..

Talk about a famous person who had it. Tell a story about them that illustrates the disorder.

Yes, have a friend volunteer for this. Start off with you and this "friend" having a great time exposing the strong bond between you two. Then suddenly slap him and say that you are threatening to sue him and ruin his life. Slap him again. That's not enough, slap him again twice and fast!
