Some people say dumb things...

I am giving up snack foods after school, and I made the deal with myself everytime I decide to eat junk food, I have to go for a run on our treadmil. I am also staying away from candy (except on Sundays, but that's allowed, right?)
I can't believe its only been a few days! I was at church the other day, and the priest said something congratulating us on making it through the first 4 days of Lent. I almost died!

I have to say, though, I actually really like Lent, and I think I get a lot out of it every year.

Good luck with whatever you are giving up! :-)

I'm actually not giving anything up, but I have begun journaling about the devotionals and Scripture passages I read daily. It has been a good experience so far, because I tend to rush through my devotional time each day (I have a 3 year-old and a 9 week-old). This forces me to actually think about what I'm reading and apply it to my life. I'm finding that this works better for me spiritually than giving up, say, chocolate because when I give something up it's not for spiritual reasons but just to prove I can do without something for 40 days.

Um, not to sound rude at all, but I think it's spelled "Lent". Sorry for correcting you!

I don't do Lent, but my a couple of my friends do. One of my friends gave up soft drinks. Another completely gave up sugar! Now, how is she going to pull that one off for 40 days?!

One of my friends just gave up cherry starbursts. I don't think that it's a very big sacrifice, because I have never seen her eat those in the first place!

What did you give up?

I was raised Catholic as a child and we observed Lent. I gave up something I liked; such as candy, going to the movie, etc. I practice a different religion now and we don't give things up for Lent.

I'm giving up lint for lint.
seriously--I am doing more cleaning house than giving up something--maybe I have given up dirt.
Yeah, that's it. I've given up dirt for lint.
So that belly button is full of dirt, no lint.
Oh, excuse me, I need more chocolate.

I don't want to sound rude or anything but it is spelt L-E-N-T. And for lent I gave up chocolate during the week. But I still let myself eat some on the weekends.

I'm giving up high fructose corn syrup for Lent, which is actually harder than it sounds, since it's in so many things nowadays.
