The playoffs can never be won by fancy passing and finesse. The tough competitors always have a much better chance of survival just because they can handle the tough playoff games every 2 nights. Some teams I think fit this description would be Detroit, Nashville, San Jose, Buffalo and Ottawa (as seen the the last few games). Calgary could probably do well if they were to add one more piece (Bill Guerin would be a good fit). OUt of those teams, I would pick a Buffalo-Nashville final, with Nashville winning in 7.

Buffalo's size is a liability, no question. But if I recall, Tampa Bay was a finess team (lead by 4 foot 7 Matry St. Louis) and they won the Cup in 2004. What helped them is that they won the firwst round in 5 games and the second round in 4.

I just have a feeling about Buffalo this year. My gut's usually wrong, but they had a great run last year with injured players, and they could do the same thing this year. I have to go with the Sabres.

No team really jumps out at me like they are the best team in the NHL, though. I feel like the favorites should be a 5-1 favorite, meaning they probably won't win. Holy cow. This is going to be an incredible playoffs

I believe the Sharks are gonna win the Stanley Cup this year! We have a solid team with one of the best powerplays and one of the best 1-2 punch players in Marleau and Thornton. We have 2 starting goaltenders in Nabby and Vesa. We have depth, youth and size. We're in a small losing streak right now, but we'll put it all together and make a run for the division and conference lead real soon. And next year....watch out for Devon Setoguchi!

The East is a hard decision, I would say Buffalo, but I think they are to small and injury prone and most likely going to fall apart in the playoffs. My other idea would be Pittsburgh, but they don't really have act their young stars and without them protected the penguins can easily shut down.

For the east I would have to go with the safe bet in New Jersey. They have solid offensive skills, pretty good defense and great goaltender in Broduer.

For the West I would say Anaheim, but they have been in a slump lately and will be easily beaten in the playoffs if they don't get out of the slump and start winning again.

For the West though I will go with the Nashville Predators, who are first in the West in points with 88. They have great forwards, like Kariya, Forsberg and Sullivan, along with good defensemen like Timonen and Vishnevski. They also have two solid goalies in Vokoun and Manson. By the way I know Sullivan is injured, but it is only day to day, so he will be back before the playoffs.

I think the Predators will beat the Devils in 6 games.

Ever since preseason I have said the Stanley Cup final would be the Ducks and the Preds with the Ducks winning in 6. The way the season is going my prediction is not as wild as it sounded at the beginnning of the season. But I hope it is the Red Wings.

Its so hard to say. Conventional wisdom would have said Detroit last year, but they tanked in the first round. Some analysts said Carolina was the "worst in the Southeast" before last year, and that was pretty wrong too. Your guess is as good as mine. I'd say Nashville, Buffalo, and Detroit look the strongest. I'd love to see Buffalo and Ottawa square off in the playoffs!

Never count out the NJ Devils Brodeur is still at the top of his game. Despite all this talk of the new rules being the demise of the Devils it's actually benefiting guys like Gionta. Devils spread their scoring around they're not depended on 1 or 2 big name stars.
